The drink, at one point them most popular cocktails in the world, is said to be originated at the Manhattan Club in New York City in the mid 1870s.

The mix of American whiskey, vermouth and aromatic bitters make this cocktail a real timeless treat, whether you choose the strict rye version or the tasty bourbon one. More alternatives can be


Ingredients

2 ounces bourbon or rye

1 ounce sweet vermouth

2-3 cocktail cherries


Instructions

1. Add the whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters to an ice filled cocktail shaker.

2. Cocktails that are all spirits are traditionally stirred, so stir for about a minute - minute and a half until it's properly chilled.

3. Strain into a martini glass.

4. Garnish with cherries.
